I am not a vet, I have been around horses since I was 5 years old when I first started to ride many, many years ago! I was very lucky that when I was 11 years old I had my first pony, when I was 16 I went and lived in on a Equestrian Centre to take my BHSHM. From the age of 27 until I was in my middle 30s I had a break from horses (due to work commitments and money!). I have had Caddy now for 10 years and Dimby for 5 years. I have learnt a lot over the years and learnt from my mistakes. I have seen many horses suffer through some owners not understanding what horses need to survive. My husband thought when he first met me that if you owned a horse that you drove by the field a couple of times a week and waved at them, and if they looked all right then they were..... He was so surprised at the amount of looking after they take and also how much money they cost to look after....... I am so lucky that he loves our two as much as I do, he is very good at mucking out and poo picking and all the other stuff too!!
Caddy and Dimby have taught me so much, because of this and from what I have learnt and seen over the years I thought maybe someone would be interested in what I have learnt so I decided to put my thoughts, and what I have learnt on this web site.
Please Have a look through the pages, you will see that I have a "Love Your Horse" how I think a horse would want us to treat them. I have a horses health pages this covers horse first aid, how to take temperature, pulse respiratory it also covers strangles, colic and other illnesses. I have a summer management page and also worming programme and why it is so important to worm. There is also a Laminitis page please be aware of this dreaded illness it can attack any horse or pony, I really would read this just so that you can recognise the symptoms should your horse or a horse you know show the signs, the earlier it is caught the better the outcome ...... anyway you get the idea I am trying to put everything that I can think of this web site, but as I have already mentioned if you can think of anything that I may have missed or that you would like to see then..... email me :-))
Hello to all of you that have come on here because of the Atrial Septal Defect, I have a page that I did while I was waiting for closure of the hole in my heart and what it was like during and after closure...... I decided to do this page to help other people like myself, as when I was waiting closure there was no where to go to find out exactly what it was like. From this page It was suggested by one of the many friends that I made through email about me starting a face book group which I did, Adults Atrial Septal Defect and here is the link
Please join us on there you are very welcome and we are a very friendly bunch :-)
I will be putting some photographs on for sale soon to try and raise money for my local cardiology hospital as they are needing much needed new equipment.
